By donating to a charity you will be helping out someone who is desperately in need of that help and who will greatly appreciate your contribution. But donating can help you save money too. How can you do this?

You are eligible to reduce the amount of income that is subject to taxation by donating either money or any other items to charity. To get this deduction you have to donate to a charity that is qualified by the IRS. You can make the claim after you make the donation. If you donate goods, you can claim on the market value of the goods. The IRS has a guideline to determine market value of commonly donated goods.

Donations need to be made to non profit organizations to enable you to get tax deductions. Donations made to labor unions, individuals, foreign governments are not eligible for tax deductions.

Care should be taken when making donations as there are many scams where people take the money and it never goes to the intended charity. If you are considering donating to a charity make inquiries about their authenticity before you make any donations.

There are many desperately ill people in hospitals that are in need of blood including children, cancer patients, accident victims and many others. The simple act of donating blood could give these people a second chance at life. What better gift than the gift of life.

In the United States, there is a person in need of blood every 2 seconds, but only 5% of the eligible 60% of the population donate blood. Each unit of blood from a donor can save the lives of three people.

If you are over the age of Seventeen years and weigh at least 110 pounds then you can start donating blood. The American Red Cross has donation centers around the country. You can donate blood every 56 days. Make sure you have plenty of fluids to drink and have a diet rich in iron before and on the day of you donate blood.

A person with type O negative blood is known as a “universal donor” whose blood can be given to anyone. This blood is mainly given to newborn babies who do not have the time to have their blood type tested.

As Christians we are challenged every day to live by the Bible and the Bible alone, as we are ‘buffeted’ by many different philosophies, cults, false prophets and the like. It becomes difficult when we do not have fellowship with people who are ‘in the faith’ and even more so, when the Word of God is not a part of our daily lives.

The chances of us straying again is greater than ever if we do not understand the importance of living each day for our Salvation.

Thanks to several people who have convinced Christians of the once saved always saved concept, we find people turning back to their old ways, and even accepting the fact that it is alright because certain people who are well-versed with the Bible told them to live that way. Yet the truth is something completely different!

What you will find in the Word of God is countless instances of why believers must be aware of their salvation because it is purely based on the concept of conditional security and nothing else. Yes, we have to work for our salvation every day.

The people who tell you the truth will always back their claims (if you can really call them that) by the verses written in the Bible along with the testimony of a life devoted to Christ. The rest who tell that it’s OK to live an easy life and yet go to heaven are the ones that you must be very careful of.

Helping another person in need can be one of the greatest gifts you can give. You do not need to give money there are many other ways you can contribute.

YOUR TIME: volunteer your time to a cause. There are many organizations in need of helping hands such as soup kitchens and shelters.

FOOD: the many people who have no food will greatly appreciate any food donations. You can hand over your donations to the local food bank.

CLOTHING: go through you closet, you will have plenty of items you don’t use, sort out the usable ones and hand over to a local charity, not only will you be helping another person but you will be clearing your clutter as well.

MATTERSSES AND BLANKETS: these will be a blessing during the winter months, don’t throw away your old mattress call a local charity, they will come and collect it.

BOOKS: there are many children in third world countries without access to books. Collect all your old school text books and any other books and search the web for collecting centers for organizations that collect and distribute these books to the needy.
