The osho meditations are a way of life developed by a man named Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. His life was full of controversy towards the end, but the methods of meditation he developed and preached have endured well beyond his passing.
Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh was born in 1931 as Rajneesh Chandra Mohan Jain. He did not take on the Bhagwan name until late sixties when he was a world renowned figure. In the period between his enlightening (1952) and late sixties, he spent a lot of time learning philosophy and debating with religious leaders in a quest for knowledge. It was in this period that he developed the method of dynamic meditation. He claimed that this method was far suited for the busy lifestyle that people had gotten into as opposed to the sit down meditation that was traditionally preached. He gained many followers from around the world, many of whom made their way to India to be his disciples in his ashram.
These disciples are now known as osho sannyas as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh changed his name to Osho in the mid-eighties.The event that changed his fortunes was a visit to the United States for treatment for a physical problem. He was encouraged to establish a commune, which later ran into problems due to the actions of a few. This forced rajneesh osho to return to his native country and continue his work there. He succumbed to failing health in 1990 and left this world forever on the 19th of January.
